This photograph features the artist Paul Cadmus making nude sketches of his muse and long-term partner, Jon Anderson. Cadmus was an American artist known for his magical realist paintings and figure drawings of nude men. Though perhaps most famous for his egg tempera paintings, which controversially fused the erotic and the grotesque, Cadmus was also a master draughtsman inspired by Italian Renaissance depictions of the body. Even Anderson’s poses evoke the dynamic composition of Classical painting and sculpture. Anderson and Cadmus would remain together until Cadmus’ passing in 1999. James Chotas' biographical information is unknown.
